About Sterile Processing Institute of Healthcare

The Sterile Processing Institute of Healthcare was established at 96 Augusta Street, Irvington, New Jersey 07111, in response to the unprecedented challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. During this time, the healthcare system faced an overwhelming surge in demand for skilled professionals, particularly in sterile processing, while simultaneously grappling with a severe workforce shortage. Hospitals and surgical centers urgently needed qualified personnel to ensure the safe cleaning, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical devices critical for patient care.

Recognizing this urgent need, the vision to train and mentor aspiring sterile processing technicians was born. The Institute was founded with the primary goal of preparing individuals to sit for and successfully pass the board examination administered by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), leading to certification as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST). Beyond addressing immediate workforce demands, SPIH was created to offer individuals a pathway from entry-level positions into stable, long-term healthcare careers with opportunities for professional growth and continuous development.

The founder and lead instructor, Gorry Junaid, brings over 11 years of hands-on experience as a Sterile Processing Technician. His experience spans both trauma hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. In addition to his clinical expertise, Gorry has served in management roles and currently acts as a consultant for medical facilities, assisting with sterile processing department development and regulatory compliance for accreditation.
